Dr. Aaron Yi DING

Aaron is a Project Lead and Postdoc Associate (5-year Appointment) at the BMW-endowed Chair of Connected Mobility in TU Munich, working with Prof. Jörg Ott since 2016. He has over 10 years of R&D work experience in EU, UK and USA. He is currently mentored by the NetApp Technical Director Dr. Lars Eggert, Huawei CTO Dr. Dirk Kutscher, and Prof. Bernd Radig at TUM. He obtained his MSc and PhD both with distinction from the University of Helsinki, Department of Computer Science (Birthplace of Linux). His PhD was supervised by Prof. Sasu Tarkoma (Head of Computer Science Department) at University of Helsinki and Prof. Jon Crowcroft at University of Cambridge.

Aaron's research focuses on mobile edge computing, IoT security, and system networking. Prior to TUM appointment, he's employed by University of Helsinki as Postdoc, PhD and project researcher, respectively. He has been working at the Columbia University of Ivy League (New York, USA) in 2014, advised by Prof. Henning Schulzrinne, and also at the University of Cambridge (Cambridge, UK) in 2013 under Prof. Jon Crowcroft. He is awarded the ACM SIGCOMM "Best of CCR 2014" and three-year PhD fellowships (2012-2014) from the Academy of Finland and University of Helsinki. He is a two-time recipient of the highly competitive Nokia Foundation Scholarships in 2012 and 2013, and awardee of the “Staff Member of the Year” by the Department of Computer Science at University of Helsinki. Aaron has received ACM grants from CoNEXT, MobiSys, EuroSys, SenSys, and Middleware.

As a member of ACM, IEEE and IETF, Aaron Co-Chaired the ACM MobiSys PhD Workshop, serves on the Board of IEEE ComSoc YP (04.2016-present) and Executive Committee of IEEE Finland (01.2014-12.2015). He has been serving on IETF Global Design Team and IAB NomCom, responsible for nominating and selecting IETF leadership. Besides as Publicity Chair for IEEE INFOCOM GI '16, he serves on TPC for ACM MobiArch '17HotPOST '17, HotSpatial '17, IFIP Networking '16 and Shadow TPC for ACM CoNEXT ’15 and ACM EuroSys ’15. He is also the co-founder and co-chair of Finland-China-Germany workshop, striving to strengthen collaborations with top European and Chinese universities, including Cambridge, Munich, Helsinki, Tsinghua, and Peking University.
