Dr. Aaron Yi DING

Aaron was a Postdoctoral Researcher at the BMW endowed Chair of Connected Mobility in TU Munich, working with Prof. Jörg Ott since 2016. He has over 11 years of R&D work experience in EU, UK and USA. He obtained his MSc and PhD both with distinction from the University of Helsinki. His PhD was supervised by Prof. Sasu Tarkoma at University of Helsinki and Prof. Jon Crowcroft at University of Cambridge.
Aaron's research focuses on mobile edge computing, IoT security, and system networking. Prior to TUM appointment, he's employed by University of Helsinki as Postdoc, PhD and project researcher, respectively. He has been working at the Columbia University of Ivy League (New York, USA) in 2014, advised by Prof. Henning Schulzrinne, and also at the University of Cambridge (Cambridge, UK) in 2013 under Prof. Jon Crowcroft.
Aaron is awarded the ACM SIGCOMM "Best of CCR 2014" and three-year PhD fellowships (2012-2014) from the Academy of Finland and University of Helsinki. He is a two-time recipient of the highly competitive Nokia Foundation Scholarships * in 2012 and 2013, and awardee of the “Staff Member of the Year” by the Department of Computer Science at University of Helsinki. Aaron has received ACM grants from CoNEXT, MobiSys, EuroSys, SenSys, and Middleware.
As a member of ACM, IEEE and IETF, Aaron is the Co-Chair for ACM EdgeSys, MobiSys PhD Workshop, served on the Board of IEEE ComSoc YP (04.2016-04.2018) and Executive Committee of IEEE Finland (01.2014-12.2015). He has been serving on IETF NomCom, responsible for nominating and selecting IETF leadership. He is also the co-founder of Finland-China-Germany workshop, striving to strengthen collaborations between top European and Chinese universities, including Cambridge, Munich, Helsinki, Tsinghua, and Peking University.
